Skills-21 is imparting higher training to technical teachers
With the financial support of the European Union (EU) and the technical assistance of the Skills-21 project of the International Labor Organization (ILO), training of advanced master trainers in technology has started. The training has been organized at the Technical Teachers Training College, Dhaka.
Higher training activities were started at various venues with the aim of producing trainers in the country through technical education trainers. For the first time in the country, the Department of Technical Education (DTE) and the Bangladesh Board of Technical Education (BTEB) organized Skill Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) training (Level-5) for master trainers. The Skills-21 project of the International Labor Organization (ILO) has provided technical assistance in this activity with the financial support of the European Union.
A statement from the Ministry of Education's Technical and Madrasa Education Department said on Monday (April 11th) that 24 Level-4 instructors and assessors from across the country took part in the event under an international level master instructor. The residential training program was conducted from March 14 to April 11 at various venues in and around the capital. All participants in the 30-day course, both online and offline, are teachers and instructors at technical education and training institutions. After the post-training evaluation on April 15 and 16, they will train 180 more teachers and trainers in the country in the next one year. In order to enhance the quality of skills of the technical students, they will be working in different institutions as well as creating more master trainers in phases.
Secretary of the Department of Technical and Madrasa Education Md. Kamal Hossain said the government is working to modernize the technical education and training system by prioritizing the transformation of the traditional classroom-based education system into a work-based skills-based (CBT&A) system. Fulfilling this goal requires a structured process such as quality skills-based teaching.
Kamal Hossain said that technical teachers and trainers must acquire up-to-date professional skills. Not only sound education but their alertness and dedication too are most required. Only then the quality and professional development of technical students will be achieved. Students will also understand that technical education can be a means of improving the quality of life.
Speaking on the occasion, Tuomo Poutiainen, Country Director, ILO Bangladesh, said that the trained master trainers would impart their acquired knowledge by creating more new trainers in the future. This will solve the employment problem in the post-Covid economic recovery by enhancing the skills of the youth. The ILO Country Director also said that the ILO Master Trainers will continue to provide technical assistance for the next level of professional development (Level-6) required skills and continuous development of the curriculum.
